Be My Rebel:

Children dream of what they will be as adults and adults dream about their childhood. But sometimes, when orderly life becomes paralyzed in routine, adults need the inner child to bring about change: "Be my rebel", the first collaboration of the two music legends Nena (99 Luftballons) and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), premiered at Nenas 40th anniversary on stage. The accompanying video by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Virgil Widrich transfers the story into a dreamlike, glass mirror world that is powered by Dave Stewart at the controls of his classic modular synthesizers. At the typewriter: Nena as an annoyed bookkeeper, who threatens to disappear soon with her flower dress in her flower wallpaper. But the inner dialogue works in both directions and soon takes effect: rebellion changes the past – and thus also the future.

Be My Rebel is a fantastic exploration of the music video as an art form and as a storytelling tool. Be My Rebel is nominated for Best VFX, Best New Media and Best New Media Director. It is a visually stunning piece of work.

An animated whirlwind cinematic tour through Vienna staged with cups, saucers, plates, knives, forks, local specialties, and products interspersed with different dimensions of Vienna’s contemporary urban life. Using stop-motion animation, Virgil Widrich’s team made 55,000 photos over five days to produce 2.7 terabytes of data. We would have had enough material in the end to produce a 38-minute film taking a playing speed of 24 images per second, “ he says. It took weeks of work to compress the message into the film’s present length. You do not need to leave a Viennese coffee table to travel through the whole city!

Vienna Table Trip is a visual feast. From the director of Be My Rebel (playing during the Noon Block). Vienna Table Trip is a film that will leave you in awe of how they made this.

Tremors is a music video created for the Baltimore band Joseph & the Beasts based on the life cycle of a human being, although laid out in a minimalist and abstract design. The video was created on a very small budget that the Director split with the band in order to have their key element, the costumes, created as the Director had envisioned. With everyone donating time and a good amount of location scouting we were able to create an elaborate world within which our title character, 'Tremor', explores and learns about herself and her origins. The song is about life and death and the Director wanted to show that in a cyclical way how we find our connection to everyone else too late in life.

Directed by Carlos Gonzalez-Fernandez, Tremors is a visual beauty. Edited with a deft hand, Tremors is a joy to watch. Nominated for Best Editor, Best New Media, Best New Media Director.
